The American Sable is also one of the recognized breeds by the American Rabbit Breeders Association. These rabbits are of a medium to large with a rounded body, and a very diverse color. It also has dark eyes with a tinge of ruby red glowing from it. The American Sable is also a result of selective cross breeding. Its parent breeds are the Chinchilla rabbits. With this, American Sable are somewhat close to Chinchilla rabbits in most of its appearance but their coats are colored differently resembling the pattern of the Siamese cat. |
American sables have erect ears which coincides nicely with it’ medium-sized head. The topline of the back forms a smooth continuous curve from the base of the neck to the tail. The coat is very soft, fine, and dense. It comes in the Sable pattern, which includes rich sepia brown on the body with darker sepia brown on the ears, face, back, legs, and upper side of the tail. Most of them weighs around 7 to 10 pounds. Males (bucks) tend to be somewhat smaller. Sables are quite friendly and docile. They somewhat enjoy the companion of other rabbits and is acting like an affectionate pet to humans. Aside from being docile, sables are also quite the sleeper type. They spent most of the time sleeping. With this, it became quite easy to pet. |
If it’s not in the mood, you’ll notice it shrugging and it thumps the back of its foot on the ground in an attempt to scare the ones that disturbs it
American Sables tend to shed in patches, and shedding usually takes a long time. Therefore, they may need more grooming than other breeds. Regular brushing with a slicker brush should be fine. |
